Tom Oberdorfer is the author of the book, Winners Lose, Too. Winners Lose, Too written for middle and high school students to teach them the value of persistence and resilience in life. The book offers real examples of the power of failure and provides “answers” directly from athletes. It will be a valuable tool for parents and teachers working with young people.

Therapist

He is a licensed social worker and therapist with over 40 years of experience working with children and adolescents in the Washington D.C. area.  He combines a rich therapy practice treating families and teens with a passion for youth sports.

Coach/Tutor

For 40 years, Tom has coached lacrosse at the collegiate, high school and middle school levels. He understands the psychology and opportunity that sports presents to young people.

In addition to his practice and coaching responsibilities, Tom tutors low-income students at a nearby elementary school. He has worked with a number of young people and their families in crisis and at a crossroads. This combination of sports acumen and therapy background with youth, grounds his belief in the power of athletic failure and the resulting ultimate recovery and triumph.
